The 2010 Barbera d’Asti Superiore Le Rocchette bursts from the glass with racy dark fruit, spices and multiple layers of vibrant, incisive minerality. I especially admire the balance of opulent fruit and minerality in the 2010. This succulent, vibrant Barbera is a fabulous drink. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016

Even more impressive, the 2009 Barbera d’Asti Superiore Nizza is flat-out sumptuous. All the best qualities of this great Barbera vintage come together in the glass. There is absolutely nothing missing. Vibrant veins of minerality support the succulent fruit through to the deeply expressive finish. Although striking today, I confess I would be tempted to cellar a few bottles of this beauty just to see what might develop. Olim Bauda’s Superiore is totally impeccable. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.
